Actually, Americans do have CVs, but we reserve them for those with scientific backgrounds. My husband, with his PhD in entomology, has a CV; I, with my office background, have a resume. CVs are allowed to be several pages and very detailed. If my resume is over two pages, I get grumbled at. (shrugs)
